Once again, I’m late publishing my goals. The current situation is making me question many things, and my motivation is up and down lately. It’s not easy to maintain writing right now. A lot is going on in my head right now and a lot happening at the same time, despite the quarantine.

Life here hasn’t changed much. We still go to the beach, we have kids over, we are seeing friends… All of this is illegal, but laws don’t always make sense. Costa Rica has so few cases and none where we live that there is no logical reason to stay confined. Besides, this virus thing is not so clear to me. The whole world is shutting down for something that is not so deadly and that people still get while being confined.

I don’t want to dive into conspiracies, 5G or Bill Gates. I don’t know what the truth is. However, I do think that some truths are not told. Why would China not allow anyone from WHO in their country? Why are they not investigating the origin of the disease? And why didn’t they want the WHO to issue an alert in January?

Anyways… What makes it complicated for me to follow through with my routine, my goals, and writing is that the future that was once more or less known is now totally unknown. This has somehow created the feeling of being lost, not knowing where to go, what to do. I don’t know what the economy will be like tomorrow and if we’ll be able to travel.

On top of that, my son, wife, and I are struggling with Leishmaniasis. I’ll let you Google it. It’s a lovely flesh-eating parasite that is slowly digging a hole into my wrist and my toe. Since it’s been a month having it, I’ve already given it a name. Pappy. I won’t post any pictures not to scare the weak. Sometimes I wish I had COVID-19 instead of it. Or Dengue. It’s not painful or anything, but it’s really annoying to become food for a parasite and to have my body not being able to kill it on its own. And the only pharmaceutical remedy for it here is getting one or two injections of heavy metals for 30 days. Plus, they check your liver on day 21 to make sure it’s still working in order to continue. For now, I’m trying to kill it naturally with local plants, but it’s a daily battle and struggle. I’ll keep you posted as long as I’m still able to use my arm.

All that to say that I’m not doing much in regards to my goals. I’m keeping my routines and habits but not implementing new ones for now.

April, a review

To read my goals for April, click here my friend. Otherwise, keep reading.

Relationships

My goal was to be more present in relationships. I’m not sure I was. I was simply myself. It’s not easy to be totally focused and not thinking about your answers while the other person talks. Sometimes conversations feel like each party is simply trying to dump out their thoughts to anyone willing to listen. It’s difficult to be truly connected.

Verdict: Please try again next time!

Health & Fitness

I’ve managed to do my daily 25 push-ups. Not necessarily in the mornings anymore, though. Sometimes at night. With my night routine of writing, reading, and meditating. I’m not necessarily feeling any stronger, though. I probably need more protein.

I’m staying relatively fit I believe and have biked to Puerto (7km) nine times in April, although this wasn’t a goal. But really the broader picture is to stay healthy and fit.

I’ve also been gluten-free in April. I think it helped. Ever since I’ve started eating gluten again, my stomach is upset. The thing is that I love bread too much to give it up. Especially for breakfast. Life is a lot easier, not having to look for gluten-free options. Now the question comes that to pleasure versus light stomach discomfort. Pleasure will probably win, to be honest with you. The bread Camillia makes is simply too good to resist.

Verdict: Yep, I’ve enjoyed my gluten-free veggie pizza with no cheese (a really long order).

Soul & Mind

I’ve been meditating, reading and writing the whole month except for 2 days. I’m trying to do it everyday even if it’s only for a few minutes. One short chapter is better than noting.

I’ve finished one book in April:
